Technical rider

The part of the rider that lists what the show needs on stage and at front of house.

On TAP

Technical rider is one of the four kinds a rider file can carry on TAP. The kind leads the file name in downloads and reads as the row's label in the EPK.

The technical rider is the build instruction for the show. The venue reads it to work out what it already has and what it has to hire in.

What it lists

  • Stage size, height, and any risers
  • Backline: amps, drums, keyboards, and who supplies each item
  • The input list, channel by channel
  • Monitors: how many mixes, wedges or in-ears
  • Desk preference at front of house, and acceptable alternatives
  • Power, lighting and rigging needs
  • Crew numbers and load-in times

Say what is essential

Split the document into what the show cannot happen without and what is preferred. A 700 capacity club cannot supply a 48 channel desk, and a rider that demands one gets ignored rather than queried. Naming two acceptable alternatives saves a week of email.

Attachments

The Stage plot and the input list belong with it, in one file where possible. Send it at confirmation and again while advancing, and check both times that everyone has the same version.
