The short name in an address that stands for an artist: the part after the slash, or after the @.

Glossary
On TAP

A handle on TAP is 3 to 30 lowercase letters and numbers, with at least one letter. It is the address of the artist and every page under it.

A handle is the short, unique name that stands for an artist inside an address. It is the part after the slash in a profile URL, and the part after the @ in a mention.

Why it matters

It gets typed, spoken and printed. A promoter writes it under a poster, a listener searches it, a platform treats it as the account's permanent identity. A handle that is hard to spell sends people to the wrong account.

Rules common across platforms

  • Lowercase, because nobody types capitals reliably.
  • Letters and numbers, sometimes an underscore or a dot.
  • Short. Under twenty characters is easier to print and to say out loud.
  • Unique within the platform, and once taken it stays taken.

Picking one

Use the same handle everywhere. An artist that is thename on one platform, the_name on another and thenameofficial on a third turns every mention into a guess. Check availability across platforms before announcing anything, and claim the name on services the artist does not use yet. Holding it costs nothing and losing it is permanent.

Free for artists.

One place to keep your artist's facts, intro, bio, photos, riders and contacts up to date. Change it once and every promoter opens the newest version. Yours at tap.fm/yourname.
