On TAP

TAP counts a click on a link, a channel, the Shop section, the shop icon or a product, a release platform button, an EPK copy button, photo or logo, and a contact's address, number, website or Save contact for the artist's stats, and sends the visitor straight to the address. One address counts once in ten minutes per thing.

A click is the moment somebody stops reading and goes somewhere. On an artist's pages it is the only action there is: everything else on the page is there to make one of them happen.

Why it is counted separately from a view

A view says the link that was shared works. A click says the page works. A page with a thousand views and no clicks is a page that answered nothing, and no amount of traffic fixes it.

The old way to count a click is to send the visitor through a counting address that then forwards them. It costs a redirect, it breaks when the counter is down, and the address in a post is the counter's rather than the thing's. Counting alongside the link instead leaves the link exactly what it says it is.

What a click is not

It is not a listen, a sale or a ticket. It is a measure of which of the things offered was the interesting one, which is the question a page can actually answer.
